SANParks-Kruger National Park and WWF Khetha seeks to support communities and other partners to develop and implement conservation-based programmes to improve governance, wildlife security, responsible economic growth and long-term human well-being. WWF Khetha will second these positions to SANParks-Kruger National Park to promote collaboration between conservation partner programmes within the Greater Kruger footprint, focussing on good practice conservation approaches between key implementing programmes within specific spatial implementation clusters.
These positions will help to coordinate, plan, negotiate and implement stewardship arrangements and liaison with and between communities, conservation partners, traditional authorities and local government. Work will focus on the social, economic and security aspects that has a bearing on the relationship between people and wildlife.

•Contribute to the develop an overview of relevant stakeholder programmes pertaining to conservation and wildlife security matters within specific spatial clusters;
•Assist with the stakeholder profiling of conservation-related programmes and participating communities/partners in the implementation clusters;
•Help to maintain the database of relevant stakeholder programmes and initiatives related to conservation and wildlife management programmes within the implementation clusters;
•Support the implementation of community business / projects for each site, as informed by relevant scoping assessments;
•Build and maintain relationships between communities, KNP, WWF Khetha, conservation partners, Traditional authorities; local government and other relevant sectors with respect to environmental issues;
•Actively participate in the Community Park, People and Park and land claimant fora (as relevant to Conservation, Youth, Environmental Education, Wildlife Security matters, including possible institutional review/support to the implementation clusters);
•Facility through relevant programmes and partnerships, good governance in communities in support of conservation and wildlife security outcomes;
•Strengthen stakeholder liaison between different sector and partner programmes with respect to conservation related programmes;
•Facility communication and flow of conservation and wildlife related matters (e.g. wildlife security, human wildlife conflict management, environmental management such as sand mining, waste management etc) between relevant conservation for a/structures and partner programmes;
•Provide support to the negotiation of Stewardship/Conservation Agreements with other conservation implementing partners with identified priority land users;
•With the support of the WWF Khetha, SANParks-KNP and other conservation partner programmes, provide capacity development pertaining to community governance and stewardship practices;
•Participate in the development of a shared community-wildlife safety strategy and implementation plan with conservation partner programmes and the stewardship liaison officials;
•Coordinate learning networks related to conservation matters, as guided by the SANParks-KNP, WWF-Khetha and other conservation partner programmes (through the Task team);
•Through the learning networks, contribute to an enhanced understanding of the range of policies from local to international scale which have direct or indirect influence on relationships between people and protected areas / wildlife;
•Generate and contribute to communication materials aimed at external and internal media/learning platforms; as guided by the SANParks-KNP, WWF-Khetha and other conservation parter programmes (through the Task team);
•Represent SANParks-KNP and WWF-Khetha at relevant external meetings pertaining to conservation and wildlife security related matters;
•Monitor and document progress and compliance in terms of the stewardship agreements, and general workplan implementation.
•BSc or Diploma in Environmental Sciences / Agriculture / Animal Science / Community based natural resource management / Community development.
•Understanding of stewardship models /community based natural resource management
•Knowledge of rangeland management
•Knowledge of People and Parks
•Knowledge of community governance and land claim processes
•Experience working with communities, including farmers;
•Ability to handle pressure and dynamic to change
•Valid driver’s license
•Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in both English and Shangaan/Sepedi/Swati
•Experience in MS Office programmes: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
•Experience in submitting professional reports
•Preference will be given to the applicants that are residents of Matsulu village under the Lomshiyo Traditional Council.
The position will be required to travel 50% of the time (locally) to support programme delivery.
